Late Winter Cozy Tips

Even though January can feel chilly and stressful,  I’ve learned that small adjustments in your life such as warmer lighting, layered blankets, comfort snacks, and a few small comfort items can make everyday school life feel calmer and more manageable.  And as a self-declared  “cozy vibe lover,” here are some of my favorite things to do to boost my feelings of coziness in the winter! (This advice is most applicable to people living in dorms but could also apply to non-dorm dwellers.)

Clothing

California does not have the coldest weather, but the temperature drops throughout the day can be annoying, especially in the morning, a windy day, or after the sun goes down. So, to make myself cozy and comfortable, I will wear clothes in layers that I can easily adjust depending on the weather.  For clothing in winter, my best advice is to wear soft clothes that make you consistently feel relaxed and to plan out your outfit before sleeping to earn more sleeping time !

Winter Movie

When outdoor activities are restricted, watching movies on my bed is my favorite way to rest.  Unlike summer where I prefer to go out and enjoy the sunshine, winter is the time for me to enjoy some undisturbed personal moments. If I want a cozier vibe, I will make myself a hot drink and turn on a softer light. For those day students that can light scented candles in their room, it is an excellent choice as it boosts the atmosphere!

Recipe both at home and in dorm

While it’s cold outside, I like to get some hot drinks for myself. Some drinks that have cinnamon, brown sugar, ginger, and chocolate in them are always my top choice as they just feel so winter.  And here are some recipes that both boarders and day students can follow:

What’s precious in the winter isn’t only the hot drinks that warm up your body, but also the experience of making them. Find a weekend with your friends and family, you could turn a five minute recipe into a memorable event.

Blanket+cute pillows on your bed

If you are only planning to change the set up of one thing in your room, I recommend you to  start with your bed. In the winter, when my bed has multiple functions acting as a studying, recharging, and resting place, the coziness of it is directly related to my mood. The change doesn’t need to be big, usually I will just add a few items to my bed that make me want to stay there. Depending on my preferences, I added flurry blankets, fluffy pillows, and stuffed toys. Those small changes make unexpected effects.

Winter can feel long, but I’ve realized that tiny changes can be aesthetically pleasing and effective at the same time. At last, I hope my tips are helpful for you and could make your winter more restful and controllable!
